Accra is the capital and most populous city of Ghana, with an estimated urban population of 25,000,000 million (females-51%, males 49%) as of 2012. It is also the capital of the Greater Accra Region and of the Accra Metropolis District, with which it is conterminous. Accra is furthermore the anchor of a larger metropolitan area, the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), which is inhabited by about 4 million people and the thirteenth-largest metropolitan area in Africa.

The National Museum

There are marvelous and colorful displays about Ghana’s culture and history in this museum. You’ll find displays and artifacts of the slave-trade, and the Ashanti Kingdom among others in the museum.

James Fort

This fort was among the monuments that housed Europeans and slaves back then. A portion of the fort was built with elegance to house the Europeans whiles the other half as housing quarters of slaves to be shipped to Europe and the Americas. It is believed to be used as a small prison of sort today.

Beaches

Labadi Beach, Coco Beach and Bojo Beach are among the most vibrant and visited beaches in Accra.

The Arts Center

This is the marketplace to shop for handicrafts. Bargain hard for the best deals at the center.

Jubilee House

Flagstaff House, also known as Golden Jubilee House, is the presidential palace in Accra that serves as a residence and office to the President of Ghana. Flagstaff House is built on the site of a building that was constructed and used for administrative purposes by the British Gold Coast Government. The previous seat of government of Ghana is Osu Castle.

Makola Market

It is colorful, and probably the most vivacious and bustling market in all of West Africa. The market has everything and anything you want to buy on the continent.

Christianborg Castle

The castle served as Government House during various periods in the 19th century. Its insignificance has not faded as it continues to be used as a Government House in modern Ghana.

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum (Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park)

This is the burial site of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Osagyefo is credited for the deliberation of the then Gold Coast from colonial rule on 6th March, 1957. Personal effects and publications of the 1st president are all housed in this mausoleum of fine architectural design in the center of Accra.

W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre

W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture is a memorial place, a research facility and tourist attraction in the Cantonments area of Accra, Ghana, that was opened to the public in 1985. It is named in dedication to the African-American[1] Pan-Africanist W. E. B. Du Bois, who became a citizen of Ghana, spending the latter part of his life there at the invitation of President Kwame Nkrumah while compiling the Encyclopedia Africana.
